A Reminder to Check All Detectors
Monday, January 16, 2012
-
The Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to a carbon monoxide detector activation called in by the homeowner. Chief 220 who was already on scene recorded high levels of carbon monoxide immediately upon entering the residence. Upon arrival of Engine 221, the crew donned their SCBAs and entered the home to investigate, upon investigation; Engine 221’s crew had carbon monoxide readings as high as 180 parts per million (PPM) throughout the residence. Carbon Monoxide levels that are that high are extremely lethal. Crews began narrowing down the cause of the carbon monoxide which was later confirmed by PSE&G. Engine 221’s crew ventilated the home and cleared the scene turning it over to PSE&G. This is a great example of why every home should be equipped with working carbon monoxide and smoke detectors as without them this call may have turned out very different.

An early winter storm hit New Jersey hard this past weekend and left a path of destruction throughout the state. Kendall Park firefighters answered seven calls for assistance from late Saturday afternoon until early Sunday afternoon. The calls were mainly for trees that fell and took down power lines. Navigating through the district continues to be hazardous due to the many tree branches that have fallen as well as low hanging power lines partially blocking roadways.
